What Marbelite Is

Marbelite is a cement-based plaster mixed with crushed marble. It has been the standard finish for concrete pools in South Africa for decades because it is smooth, durable and easy to repair. With balanced water it typically lasts 10 to 15 years.

The Pool Resurfacing Process

The pool is drained first. If you want to keep the water, our pool bladder hire stores it on site. Loose and hollow plaster is removed, cracks are repaired and waterproofed, and the new marbelite is applied over a prepared surface.

The pool is then refilled and started up carefully, because a new finish needs gentle chemistry and regular brushing while it cures.

Caring for a New Marbelite Finish

Brush the pool often for the first few weeks to remove plaster dust, keep pH and alkalinity in range, and avoid heavy chemical doses until the finish has cured. We give you start-up instructions with every resurfacing job.

Resurfacing With Tiling and Coping

Resurfacing is the right time to fix everything that needs an empty pool. We usually combine it with pool tiling at the waterline and coping repair, so the pool only has to be drained once.

FAQs – Pool Resurfacing

1. How long does a marbelite finish last?

With balanced water and regular brushing, typically 10 to 15 years. Acidic or very hard water wears it out sooner.

Usually one to two weeks from draining to refilling, depending on how much repair the shell needs and the weather.

No. Resurfacing needs an empty, dry shell. Small patch repairs can sometimes be done underwater, but they are not a resurfacing.

Fibreglass pools need a different coating from marbelite. We assess the shell and advise on the right repair or recoating.
