Read the guidePool tiling replaces loose, cracked or stained tiles at the waterline, on steps or across the whole pool, and reseals the joints behind them. Pool Quest retiles pools across Johannesburg, from a few loose tiles to full waterline bands and complete retiles.
Tell us which tiles need attention and we will quote the retiling work.
The usual signs are tiles that are loose, hollow-sounding or falling off, cracked or missing grout, and scale or stains that no longer clean off. Our guide to the signs you need to retile your pool covers each one and what causes it.
Most tiling work is at the waterline, where tiles take the most sun, chemicals and temperature change. A waterline band can often be replaced by lowering the water below the tile line.
A full retile, or tiling across steps and seats, needs the pool emptied, and is usually combined with pool resurfacing.
We remove the old tiles and adhesive, check and repair the surface behind them, and lay the new tiles with adhesive and grout made for constant immersion. The tiles are left to cure fully before the pool is refilled, because water pushed behind uncured grout is what makes tiles fail early.
Pool tiles need to be frost-resistant, non-porous and fixed with submersion-rated products. Glass mosaics and porcelain are common choices, and steps need a slip-resistant finish. We help you choose tiles that suit your pool and match the coping.
Waterline tiles and coping sit on the same bond beam, so movement that lifts one often cracks the other. When we retile, we check the coping too. Our guide to pool coping repair explains what to look for.
Usually because water has got behind them through cracked grout and broken down the adhesive, or because the shell or bond beam has moved.
Waterline tiles can usually be replaced by lowering the water below the tile line. Tiles on the walls, floor or steps need the pool emptied.
A waterline band typically takes a few days including curing. A full retile takes longer and is often combined with resurfacing.
