Wiring faults, loose terminals, and safety isolation

A pool timer is an electrical device. Loose wiring and corroded terminals are common failure points, especially in outdoor enclosures. A loose neutral or loose live connection can cause intermittent timer operation and heat buildup. Corrosion can increase resistance and lead to unreliable switching. 

Any wiring work should be done with power isolated at the breaker. Outdoor mer boxes should be inspected for water ingress, insects, and corrosion. If there is visible burn damage or melted insulation, the timer should not be used until it is repaired safely.
